Produced on the slopes of the Etna volcano, in the Sicilian estate of the Imberti family, Etna Rosso A Picca A Picca (“little by little” in the local dialect) comes from Nerello Mascalese grapes.
GRAPES: 100% Mascalese Nerello
The vineyards, located in hamlet of Solicchiata in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia (CT), are located at an altitude of 600 mt above sea level, a feature that guarantees excellent day / night temperature excursions during the ripening phase, and are exposed to North / North -East.
The soil has the typical characteristics of volcanic soils, deep dark color, sandy and with low organic matter.
The average age of the vines is over 80 years, but numerous, still productive, vines were planted at the end of the nineteenth century, i.e. before the Phylloxera pest destroyed all the European vineyards.
The yield per plant is modest, reaching only 6 tons / hectare of the highest quality grapes.
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel, to preserve the great aromatic potential of the Nerello Mascalese.
In September of the year following the harvest, bottling is carried out and the wine is aged in the bottle for at least another 6 months before being released.
